Experiment Module

Elastic Collision V1'

Theory & Logic

Theoretical Background

Physics describes the fundamental mechanism of the universe. The Elastic Collision (V1 Final) is an essential tool for understanding Elastic Collision (V1 Final) in quantitative terms. Final vel of mass 1 in 1D elastic collision.

Mathematical Formulation

The relationship between the variables is governed by the following equation:

Result = ((m1 - m2)÷(m1 + m2))×v1 + ((2×m2)÷(m1 + m2))×v2
Eq 1.1: Governing Formula

Variable Legend

Symbol Parameter Unit
m1 Mass 1 kg
v1 Vel 1 Initial m/s
m2 Mass 2 kg
v2 Vel 2 Initial m/s

Practical Calculation Example

Problem

Calculating the result when:

  • Mass 1 = 45 kg
  • Vel 1 Initial = 30 m/s
  • Mass 2 = 100 kg
  • Vel 2 Initial = 15 m/s

Solution

Substituting into Eq 1.1:

Result = ((45 - 100)÷(45 + 100))×30 + ((2×100)÷(45 + 100))×15
