Froude Number

Theory & Logic

Theoretical Background

Physics describes the fundamental mechanism of the universe. The Froude Number is an essential tool for understanding Froude Number in quantitative terms. Calculate Fr = v / sqrt(g*L).

Mathematical Formulation

The relationship between the variables is governed by the following equation:

Result = v ÷ √(9.8 × l)
Eq 1.1: Governing Formula

Variable Legend

Symbol Parameter Unit
v Velocity m/s
l Length m

Practical Calculation Example

Problem

Calculating the result when:

  • Velocity = 85 m/s
  • Length = 65 m

Solution

Substituting into Eq 1.1:

Result = 85 ÷ √(9.8 × 65)
